GS-2400 Maritime Command & Control Data Link
Shipborne Communication System GS-2400

Delivering critical communications that keep vessels connected at sea

The future wars are focusing on NCW (Network Centric Warfare) instead of Platform Centric Warfare. Main factors with great impact on today’s battlefield are better SA (Situational Awareness) capabilities (getting and keeping the SA) beyond the enemy, real time Command and Control capabilities and precise attack on the target. NCW performs wars with these capabilities.

In the network centric warfare, sensor systems, command & control and attack systems maximize the fighting capabilities by sharing the SA through network. The core element is Tactical Datalink that enables NCW.

The Tactical Datalink performs the network centric warfare while the exchange of real time tactical information increases the synergy effects of weapon system and achieves the information superior.

In today’s naval battle, the growth of relative threat factors including the increased threat velocity, radar avoidance of threat target makes the action time shorter and that enhances the importance of Tactical Datalink in Warship Systems.

System Overview

HF and VHF networks form a GS-2400 system. HF network is used for BLOS (beyond-line-of-sight) communication between vessels and ground headquarters. UHF network is used for high speed LOS (line-of-sight) communication between vessels.

GS-2400 operates in Roll Call mode compared to Link11 and DTDMA mode compared to Link22. Here, the Roll Call mode is standard and the users can switch the modes depending on their demand.

In Roll call mode, data is disseminated throughout the net by the automatic reporting of pickets (in general, participating units) in response to the interrogations by the Network Control Picket (in general, ground Command & Control picket).

NCS shall be able to interrogate all picket in any sequence and inserting its own data transmission at any point of the sequence.

Although Roll Call mode of GS-2400 is similar to Link11, the optimized frequency and data rate are selectable for PTP connection between NCS and picket in the current radio environment by 3G ALE function of 4th generation HF radio. This increases the anti-jamming capabilities and throughput.

Roll Call mode provides the most robust data exchange between all the pickets in data link.

In Roll Call mode, the NCS assesses the link quality to each picket in the network after data exchange with them one by one (a network round cycle). Then, it decides if the network can be run in fixed frequency mode.

Once any channel is decided as a proper one to run the network, the NCS administrator switches the link system to Dynamic TDMA mode manually.

DTDMA mode of GS-2400 operates in very similar way to Link22 such as dynamic slot assignment, late network entry, congestion management and so on.

DTDMA provides data transmission with minimum latency.

UHF network of GS-2400 form Ad-hoc network.

Today's data applications must be able to transmit radar tracks, situation reports (SITREP) and general text messages and they increasingly require integration of digital media (images, audio, video) and Microsoft Office documents. The significance of video transmission and video conferencing is growing, too. Despite the use of state-of-the-art data compression methods, video transmission requires high data transmission rates. The UHF data link permits operation of a self-organizing IP-based mobile radio network in the UHF frequency band with data transmission rates in the Mbit/s range and communication range is highly scalable by the automatic relay.

All the capabilities of GS-2400 are ensured by the HF radios such as GR-8100HV, GR-8100MS, high capacity data radio, GR-8520VU, and system network controller GE-8400.
